It started with a word
Every Balkan kid has done it. You're walking through a shopping centre, you see a Balenciaga logo, and your brain autocompletes: BALKANCIAGA. It's not even a stretch — the word is right there, hiding inside the original like it was always meant to be.
At TOURIST FASHION, we decided to stop thinking it and start making it. The BALKANCIAGA collection is a line of hats, tees, and totes that take Balenciaga's oversized, logo-heavy aesthetic and give it a Balkan origin story. Same confidence. Different peninsula.
Why Balenciaga?
A few reasons. First, the name. BALKANCIAGA writes itself — it's phonetically seamless and immediately recognisable. Second, Balenciaga's own aesthetic has always played with irony: the $1,800 trash bag, the IKEA-inspired tote, the deliberately ugly sneakers. Remixing a brand that already remixes luxury is a hall of mirrors — and that's exactly the energy we want.
Third, Balenciaga's visual language is built on typography, bold logo placement, and clean silhouettes. Our BALKANCIAGA pieces use the same visual grammar — bold type, centred logo, premium materials — but the message is entirely our own.
The collection
The BALKANCIAGA line currently includes a low-profile baseball cap, heavyweight cotton tees in black and white, and a cotton tote bag. Every piece features the BALKANCIAGA TOURIST wordmark — embroidered on the hats, printed on the tees and totes.
The design is deliberately restrained. No all-over prints, no busy graphics. Just the name, the logo, and the quality of the materials doing the work. The heavyweight cotton tees are thick enough to feel expensive, and the cap is structured with a clean profile.
BALKANCIAGA is tongue-in-cheek, but it's not a gag gift. It's a real piece of streetwear that happens to also be funny.
Streetwear and remix culture
Remix culture has always been part of streetwear — from bootleg tees to brand mashups, the best streetwear has never been afraid to play with fashion's sacred cows. TOURIST FASHION sits in that tradition. Our pieces are original designs with their own identity, riffing on visual codes that the audience already recognises. The remix is the point.
Who wears BALKANCIAGA?
Diaspora kids who grew up caught between two cultures. Streetwear fans who appreciate the humour of a Balkan spin on luxury fashion. Foodies and culture nerds who want their wardrobe to say something.
